Batelco Acceptable Use Internet Security Policy contains Advisory Guidelines & Mandatory rules to protect the interests of our Internet customer service and Batelco Internet customers. Violation of these guidelines may result in one or more actions mentioned in the Compliance section. "


  • Always ensure that an antivirus application is operational and configured, and performs automatic update at all times.
  • Always ensure that any pending svirus definition updates have been performed before opening/starting any application.
  • If lab testing conflicts with antivirus software, run the antivirus utility to ensure a clean machine, disconnect from the Internet, disable the antivirus software, and then run the lab test. After the lab test, enable the antivirus software, before reconnecting to the Internet.
  • When the antivirus software is disabled, do not connect to the Internet or run any
  • applications that could transfer a virus, e.g., email or file sharing.
  • Always ensure that, a personal firewall and intruder detection system is operational and suitably
  • configured
  • NEVER open any files or macros attached to an email from an unknown, suspicious or
  • untrustworthy source. Delete these attachments immediately, then “double delete” them by emptying your ‘Trash’ file.
  • Delete spam, chain, and other junk email without opening or forwarding.
  • Never download files from unknown or suspicious sources.
  • Avoid direct disk sharing with read/write access unless there is an absolute and understood
  • need to do so.
  • Always scan a floppy diskette or CD from an unknown source for viruses, before using it.
  • Backup critical data and system configurations on a regular basis.
  • Do not install any illegal/pirated software.
  • Always ensure that Internetfacing network devices are secure with appropriate controls (access lists, builtin firewalls, etc.).
  • NEVER allow anyone direct, local/remote access to your PC or Laptop for any reason.
  • Do not download content of a questionable nature.
  • If you have young children who may have access to your computer and the Internet, we strongly recommend that ‘security settings’ are adjusted to prevent access to content of an adult nature.
  • Mandatory Rules
  • Do not use Customer Internet Connections to inconvenience other Internet users, this encompasses, but is not limited to:
  • Spamming Sending of multiple or mass copies of either unsolicited or inappropriate letters. (including email braodcast or email marketing)
  • Scanning Using tools to perform Service and Port scanning in an effort to identify Service/Server/Network Weaknesses and Vulnerabilities on Batelco inet network or the Internet.
  • Probing or Foot Printing Using tools to perform network protocol queries to ascertain the logical topology of networks on Batelco inet network or the Internet.
  • Spoofing Pretending to be someone else to gain unauthorized access on Batelco inet Network or the Internet.
  • Copyright infringement Unauthorized distribution or use of copyrighted materials across the Internet.
  • Social Engineering To use lies, deceit, play acting and verbal cleverness to trick Batelco representative or Batelco Internet users into divulging confidential information.
  • Virus/TrojanHorse propagation The deliberate propagation of malicious code across the Internet.
  • Cracking Any activity designed to obtain account name or password information of another Batelco Internet user (e.g. brute force and dictionary attacks).
  • Hacking Any activity designed to obtain unauthorized access to systems on the Batelco inet network or the Internet.
  • Attacking Any activity designed to cause interruption to services on Batelco inet Network or the Internet (e.g. Denial of Service attack).

Compliance

  • Any noncompliance with the above mandatory rules will be investigated by the Batelco inet Security Team and infringements may result in any or all of the following.
  • A warning being sent to the offending user.
  • Suspension of the offending Internet account.
  • Removal of Batelco owned networking equipment at the customer premise.
  • Release of personal information related to the offending user, to Law Enforcement agencies and the press.
  • Civil prosecution.
  • Criminal prosecution.
