Security policy
Batelco Acceptable Use Internet Security Policy contains Advisory Guidelines & Mandatory rules to protect the interests of our Internet customer service and Batelco Internet customers. Violation of these guidelines may result in one or more actions mentioned in the Compliance section.
Our advice
- Always ensure that an anti-virus application is operational and configured, and performs automatic update at all times.
- Always ensure that any pending virus definition updates have been performed before opening/starting any application.
- If lab testing conflicts with anti-virus software, run the anti-virus utility to ensure a clean machine, disconnect from the Internet, disable the anti-virus software, and then run the lab test. After the lab test, enable the anti-virus software, before reconnecting to the Internet. When the anti-virus software is disabled, do not connect to the Internet or run any applications that could transfer a virus, e.g., e-mail or file sharing.
- Always ensure that, a personal firewall and intruder detection system is operational and suitably configured.
- Never open any files or macros attached to an e-mail from an unknown, suspicious or untrustworthy source. Delete these attachments immediately, then “double delete” them by emptying your ‘Trash’ file.
- Delete spam, chain, and other junk e-mail without opening or forwarding.
- Never download files from unknown or suspicious sources.
- Avoid direct disk sharing with read/write access unless there is an absolute and understood need to do so.
- Always scan a floppy diskette or CD from an unknown source for viruses, before using it.
- Back-up critical data and system configurations on a regular basis.
- Do not install any illegal/pirated software.
- Always ensure that Internet-facing network devices are secure with appropriate controls (access lists, built-in firewalls, etc.).
- Never allow anyone direct, local/remote access to your PC or Laptop for any reason.
- Do not download content of a questionable nature.
- If you have young children who may have access to your computer and the Internet, we strongly recommend that ‘security settings’ are adjusted to prevent access to content of an adult nature.
