Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1. What is WiFi?

Wi-Fi or wireless fidelity is the freedom that allows connection to the Internet without cables. A wireless technology like a cell phone, Wifi enables computers to send and receive data indoors and out, anywhere within the range of a base station. Wifi enables users/visitors to use the Internet service in public places like the airport, coffee shops and food-courts at high speeds and convenience using their laptop/hand-held with a wifi adapter.

2. What is a Hot Spot?

A Hot Spot is a term used to identify an area where wifi service is available and customers can go to log in to use the WiFi service. For a list of current Hot Spots in and around Bahrain, click the Batelco WiFi Zone link on the main page.

3. How do I connect to Batelco wifi?

The minimum requirements for using the wifi service are that your laptop or PDA should have WLAN (WiFi 802.11b) capability. Your existing device may already have that capability built-in. If not, you can purchase a WiFi 802.11b wireless networking card for most laptops and many PDAs direct from any major electronics retailer.
To use the service, simply turn on your WLAN enabled laptop or PDA/handheld. In the network settings for your WLAN card, set the SSID (network name) to: batelco. (Alternatively, you can search for a network called “batelco”.) Then start your Internet browser and enter the code from the Batelco wifi prepaid card at the Login-page presented.

4. How do I know if my PC/laptop/PDA can connect to Batelco wifi?

Check the specification of your laptop/PDA. If it does have a built-in wifi, you will find a switch for it with an image of "a tower that transmit". If your Laptop doesn’t have that option, you don’t need to worry, you can simply buy a wifi PCMCIA card (which costs between BD 15 to BD 20)

5. What is a PCMCI card? How do I use it?

PCMCIA card or the PC card is a credit card-size memory or Input/Ouput device that fits into a personal computer, usually a notebook or laptop computer. The most common use of a PC Card is the telecommunications modem for notebook computers.

A PC card is available that fits into a user’s laptop and provides it with wifi connection capability.

6. Do I need to Change or setup my IP address?

No. There is no need to make any changes to your existing IP address or configuration. Batelco WiFi Service is design to provide you with Internet service regardless of your IP address setting.

7. How to Log-off?

When you log-in, there is a small session window that opens on your screen. This window shows the session data and provides a logout button.
